CLEAR Coaching Model

CLEAR stands for:

• Contract

• Listen

• Explore

• Action

• Review.

This model is similar to other coaching models in its use of exploring the current situation and options, and the emphasis for the coach on listening. However, this model also mentions the importance of reflection, and discusses the idea of contracting. The contracting stage is about clarifying goals and defining roles and responsibilities. It is also about addressing logistics, setting expectations and establishing trust and confidentiality.
