Help Educators Interpret Data

Coaches can help educators make informed decisions to improve teaching and better support pupil learning.

In schools data, both qualitative and quantitative, is generated about the school, its staff and pupils from multiple sources. The challenge is ensuring sufficient time is spent considering the data to make informed decisions on how to improve.

In terms of teaching and assessment, coaches can encourage educators to use Excel for recording assessment data and to use Smart Charts to easily illustrate results. More informed decisions can be made when data is downloaded from multiple sources of Excel eg data on Cognitive Ability Tests from GL Assessment, data on skills development platforms, or data from Teams Assignments, and then workbook links are created so that the data paints a fuller picture.

Reflect in Teams is a useful tool for qualitative data, and can show interesting patterns on students over time. Data insights is Teams is also useful for showing engagement from individual pupils.

Individual student learning can be better supported when educators have a full picture of a student, their attendance, their achievement, their health, their wellbeing, their effort etc and communication using platforms such as iSams or Teams can be helpful in pulling together all information and allowing it to be communicated to better support a student.

Individual student learning can also be enhanced when a student has a clearer picture of what they want to achieve, and where they are currently, and Power App platforms that can be designed in a child-friendly manner allow for greater pupil agency.
